Tilman Pass (5,320m) is a remote and challenging trek in Nepal's Langtang region, offering stunning Himalayan views and a rugged route for experienced adventurers.
Introduction
Tilman Pass (5,320m) is a high-altitude mountain pass in the Langtang region of Nepal, named after the British mountaineer H.W. Tilman. It serves as a remote and less-traveled route connecting the Langtang Valley to the Panch Pokhari region. Known for its extreme conditions and technical difficulty, the pass is rarely attempted, making it an ideal choice for experienced trekkers looking for a true wilderness adventure.
The journey to Tilman Pass takes trekkers through diverse terrains, from dense forests and glacial valleys to rugged moraines and high-altitude alpine zones. The trek begins in Syabrubesi and follows the Langtang River, passing through traditional Tamang villages before reaching higher altitudes. Due to the steep ascent and challenging descent, climbers often require ropes and crampons, making proper acclimatization and technical skills essential.
Despite its difficulties, Tilman Pass offers stunning panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and other Himalayan peaks. The isolated nature of the route provides a rare opportunity to experience untouched landscapes and remote cultural settlements. Given the technical challenges and unpredictable weather, this trek is best suited for seasoned adventurers with mountaineering experience and the guidance of professional expedition leaders.

We trek through yak pastures and small Tamang villages before reaching Kyanjin Gompa. Along the way, we pass ancient mani walls and traditional chortens. Upon arrival, we explore the famous Kyanjin Monastery, an important spiritual site for the local community. The breathtaking panorama of the Langtang range is visible from here.
Day 7: Acclimatization Day/ Rest Day at Kyanjin Gompa
To adjust to the increasing altitude, we take a rest day at Kyanjin Gompa. A hike to Tserko Ri (5000m) is optional, offering stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, and Dorje Lakpa. Alternatively, we can explore the surrounding area, visit the yak cheese factory, and interact with locals.

Day 13: Trek to Nasimpati 3700m [5-6 hrs]
We continue our descent towards Nasimpati, passing through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests. The trail offers beautiful views of the rolling hills and distant mountain peaks. As we lose altitude, breathing becomes easier, making for a more comfortable trek.

The trail takes us further downhill as we enter more vegetated regions. Walking through lush forests and remote settlements, we reach Bhanjyang. The village offers stunning sunset views over the surrounding valleys.
Day 15: Trek to Pauwabas 3000m [5-6 hrs]
Descending further, we reach Pauwabas, a small settlement with basic lodges. The landscape continues to change as we leave the high-altitude region behind. We enjoy the warmer climate and lush greenery along the way.

Reviews
Good!
Exellent guide for solo trekking. The flexibility of the programm was good and everything worked with Expedition Himalaya.
Awesome experience.
This is a one in a lifetime experience, to one of the most remote areas of the world. The whole journey was breathtaking and an excellent experience. We were unfortunate with the weather at the end but that is mountain life. Himalayan experience worked tirelessly to organise helicopter flights off the mountain, along with the other 2000 people stranded at Lukla airport. Big thanks to Ian Pallister for organising this for us. Pasan our lead guide, and Lapa our junior guide. I would thoroughly recommend this company if you want to complete Everest Base camp and other adventures.
Tibet2025_Zanardi
We were a group of 4 family members traveling to Tibet through Kathmandu. EH organized the perfect trip for us. All guides and drivers were excellent from all points of view: professional, friendly, experienced, thoughtful, flexible, reliable, respectful. Prabeen was our guide in Kathmandu. Dawa Sherpa flew with us from Kathmandu to Lhasa and carefully orchestrated every single detail of our Tibet tour, including shopping for picnics in late evenings and last-minute helicopter arrangements. Tashi is THE guide you want in Tibet: all the adjectives above, plus much more, and always in harmony with Dawa for daily decisions. Driver Tsering is simply amazing: great driver, improvised porter, strong communicator with gazes and gestures (not English speaking). We ended up with the feeling of traveling in a group of 7 family members for 2 weeks. The tour included the Kailash kora, up to 5630 mt altitude. EH organized it carefully, so that we arrived acclimatized and suffered a minimum. EH co-owner (with Dawa) Nabin met us personally multiple times in Kathmandu before the Tibet tour and after it, for briefing and farewell. And Niren has been in constant contact with us, in person and by phone. I strongly recommend EH for adventure accompanied by safety and special treats.
