A rewarding journey in Nepal’s Annapurna region, the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek offers dramatic close-up Himalayan views, alpine ridge walks, and vibrant rhododendron forests in spring. Ideal for trekkers seeking a moderate challenge within a shorter timeframe, this trek combines quiet trails, authentic mountain landscapes, and a true high-altitude experience.
Introduction
The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a rewarding Himalayan journey in Nepal’s Annapurna region, known for its dramatic scenery, quieter trails, and close-up mountain views. Tucked beneath the towering north face of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), the trek leads to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m / 14,764 ft), offering an immersive high-altitude experience without the heavy foot traffic found on more popular routes.
The trail begins from the lush mid-hills near Pokhara and gradually ascends through dense rhododendron and oak forests, especially vibrant during the spring season. As elevation increases, the landscape opens into alpine ridgelines with uninterrupted views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. Walking above the treeline, particularly between High Camp and Base Camp, delivers a true mountain atmosphere with dramatic terrain and expansive Himalayan panoramas.
This trek is ideal for travelers looking for a moderate challenge combined with a strong sense of remoteness. While the walking days are manageable, the route still reaches significant altitude, making it suitable for fit trekkers who want a genuine base camp experience within a relatively short timeframe. The itinerary is carefully designed to allow gradual acclimatization, balanced trekking days, and comfortable recovery after summit viewpoints.
In addition to mountain scenery, the Mardi Himal route passes through traditional villages and quiet forest settlements, offering insight into local mountain life away from the main trekking corridors. With basic teahouse accommodation, experienced local guides, and well-defined trails, the trek balances adventure, safety, and authenticity.
For those seeking a less-commercialized Himalayan trek that delivers dramatic views, peaceful trails, and a true sense of high-mountain exploration, the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek stands out as one of the finest short treks in the Annapurna region.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,330 m / 4,364 ft)
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by the Expedition Himalaya team and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, a detailed trek briefing is conducted, covering route overview, safety protocols, weather conditions, and equipment check.
Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (884 m / 2,900 ft) – Drive to Kande – Trek to Australian Camp (2,060 m / 6,759 ft)
A scenic morning flight brings you to Pokhara. From Pokhara, a short drive leads to Kande, the starting point of the trek. The trail ascends gradually through forests and terraced hillsides to Australian Camp, a well-known viewpoint offering wide panoramas of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare.
Day 3: Trek to Forest Camp (2,515 m / 8,251 ft)
Leaving Australian Camp, the trail continues through peaceful forest sections, gradually gaining altitude. The route is quieter compared to the main Annapurna trails and passes through dense rhododendron and oak forests.
Day 4: Trek to Low Camp (3,150 m / 10,335 ft)
The trail climbs steadily through thick forests, with vegetation thinning as altitude increases. During spring, this section is especially beautiful with blooming rhododendrons. Occasional clearings provide early views toward Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
Day 5: Trek to High Camp (3,700 m / 12,139 ft)
Today’s trek follows narrow ridgelines above the tree line. The landscape becomes rugged and open, offering dramatic views of Machapuchare north face and surrounding peaks. High Camp sits on an exposed ridge, providing a true high-mountain atmosphere.
Day 6: Trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m / 14,764 ft) – Trek back to High Camp
An early start leads to the highlight of the trek. The trail ascends gradually over rocky terrain to Mardi Himal Base Camp, offering close-up views of Machapuchare, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. After spending time at base camp, descend carefully back to High Camp.
Day 7: Trek to Siding (1,710 m / 5,610 ft)
The trail descends steeply through forests and terraced farmland to the traditional village of Sidding. This route provides insight into local rural life and feels far removed from the busier trekking corridors of the Annapurna region.
Day 8: Drive from Sidding to Pokhara (884 m / 2,900 ft)
After breakfast, begin a scenic drive from Siding back to Pokhara, descending through terraced hillsides, riverside roads, and rural settlements.
Upon arrival in Pokhara, the rest of the day is free at leisure, allowing you to explore the city at your own pace. You may choose to relax by the shores of Phewa Lake, enjoy a boat ride, visit nearby cafés, or simply unwind after the trek. Optional activities such as short walks around Lakeside, spa treatments, or casual sightseeing can be arranged independently.
Day 9: Fly to Kathmandu (1,330 m / 4,364 ft)
After breakfast, transfer to Pokhara Airport for the short scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free at leisure. You may choose to rest after the trek, explore nearby markets for souvenirs, or visit cultural and heritage sites around the city independently. This day also allows time for personal arrangements and a relaxed conclusion to the trekking journey.
Day 10: International Departure

Good!
Exellent guide for solo trekking. The flexibility of the programm was good and everything worked with Expedition Himalaya.
Awesome experience.
This is a one in a lifetime experience, to one of the most remote areas of the world. The whole journey was breathtaking and an excellent experience. We were unfortunate with the weather at the end but that is mountain life. Himalayan experience worked tirelessly to organise helicopter flights off the mountain, along with the other 2000 people stranded at Lukla airport. Big thanks to Ian Pallister for organising this for us. Pasan our lead guide, and Lapa our junior guide. I would thoroughly recommend this company if you want to complete Everest Base camp and other adventures.
Tibet2025_Zanardi
We were a group of 4 family members traveling to Tibet through Kathmandu. EH organized the perfect trip for us. All guides and drivers were excellent from all points of view: professional, friendly, experienced, thoughtful, flexible, reliable, respectful. Prabeen was our guide in Kathmandu. Dawa Sherpa flew with us from Kathmandu to Lhasa and carefully orchestrated every single detail of our Tibet tour, including shopping for picnics in late evenings and last-minute helicopter arrangements. Tashi is THE guide you want in Tibet: all the adjectives above, plus much more, and always in harmony with Dawa for daily decisions. Driver Tsering is simply amazing: great driver, improvised porter, strong communicator with gazes and gestures (not English speaking). We ended up with the feeling of traveling in a group of 7 family members for 2 weeks. The tour included the Kailash kora, up to 5630 mt altitude. EH organized it carefully, so that we arrived acclimatized and suffered a minimum. EH co-owner (with Dawa) Nabin met us personally multiple times in Kathmandu before the Tibet tour and after it, for briefing and farewell. And Niren has been in constant contact with us, in person and by phone. I strongly recommend EH for adventure accompanied by safety and special treats.
